What I'm Reading

This week, I decided to share with you the book that's been keeping me up late at night. Right now, I'm enjoying "Crenshaw" by Katherine Applegate.

The author's name probably sounds familiar! That's because she also wrote 2 well known books about a real life gorilla named Ivan.

You might also be wondering why the cover of "Crenshaw" looks familiar. There's a good chance you've seen it on display in your local libraries. "Crenshaw" is one of this next year's Bluebonnet Books. I always try to read as many of the Bluebonnet Books as possible over the summer break.

"Crenshaw" is an emotional read, that hits on some real life issues such as poverty and homelessness. Jackson, the main character, find himself shocked when his imaginary friend from his younger years reappears. Jackson is noticing signs of his family's financial problems and he's worried they are going to end up living out of their car again. I'm about 3/4 of the way finished with this book, and I'm anxious to finish it.

This book leaves me wondering if any of you have imaginary friends? Here's a few books I recommend if you want to read about imaginary friends:

AMAZING Books, Part 1

School has only been out for a couple of days, and FIVE STUDENTS have already written an AMAZING book report. This makes me even more excited to work with the future students of Joe Lee Johnson Elementary. Below you can see who has already earned a book dedication, as well as what book they loved. I can't wait to see more book reports come through! Feel free to email me if you need a suggestion.
